36+ US Sourced & Manufactured Yarns
After the announcements of both Brooklyn Tweed and Hudson + West closing this year, I feared that it would be challenging to find other excellent US sourced & manufactured yarns that were widely available. After asking on Instagram for recommendations from other knitters, I am so glad to find that my fears were groundless!
Despite the challenges that exist in making a yarn that is grown, processed, spun, and dyed all in the US, there are quite a few businesses out there doing exactly this!! In this blog post I highlight 36 yarns that meet these qualifications, several of which come in multiple weights. For each, I include as much info about each as I could find regarding specifically where the wool was sourced from and where the manufacturing steps took place.
I also include a list at the end of additional businesses with 100% US sourced & manufactured yarns - simply because there are so many I couldn’t do an in depth feature of every single one! I tried to prioritize highlighting yarns that were widely available and came in a range of color options.
Tip!
If you’re interested in finding yarns in this list that are sourced , spun, or dyed locally to you, try using the search function (Ctrl+F on Windows, Command+F on Mac) to search for the two letter abbreviation for your state or nearby states, for example “NC.”
Checking out any nearby fiber festivals is usually the best way to find local yarns in your area! Also asking around at local yarn shops is likely to get you some great leads.
